North Korea: Sexual abuse of women 'common' - report

Today in the world that we live in sexual abuse is a crime that is unacceptable. With the #METOO movement, more and more survivors have come forward to share their story. However, there are still women who can not come forward and share their stories. In North Korea, this is very much the case. Many women who have escaped from North Korea have told and reported cases of sexual abuse and rape from men of authority. Police officers, high ranking officials, and guards have all be among the accused. Women say that a man will pick them and they have no choice to consent. Someone women even say that this has become a normal everyday reality for women. With little sexual education awareness, this has become a big issue and Human Right agencies are taking notice and helping women come forward and share their stories. It is a system-wide problem that is still going on to this day without a clear end in sight. In addition to women experience this abuse while in jail they are subjected to forced abortions and rape and sexual abuse while awaiting their trial date.
